16-year-old dylan schumaker was watching his girlfriend Ashlee Smith’s two small boys in Springville, New York on March 19, 2013, while she worked her shift at a restaurant. Schumaker was taken into custody for the murder of one of the sons before the end of the night. Austin, the older son, was just two years old when it found out that he had killed him by beating him.
During the verdict, Schumaker, who was found guilty of second-degree murder, sobbed and declared his love for Austin. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in jail for the toddler’s death by State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller, who referred to him as a “manipulator and deceiver” for his attempt to persuade the jury with tears.
dylan schumaker is now incarcerated at the Clinton Correctional Facility in New York, and he can apply for release in 2031.
dylan schumaker‘s prison term was lowered by the Court of Appeals in February 2016 from 18 years to life. After he serves out his full 18 years in prison, he will be available for release in 2031. Even after being freed, he will still be supervised by the state.
Since his 2014 incarceration, 26-year-old Schumaker has completed nine years of his indeterminate sentence. At the Clinton Correctional Facility in New York, he is presently completing the remaining portion of his term.
